Achieve are recruiting Labourers for a Parks and Open Spaces role within Townsville. 

REQUIRED for this role:

• White Card 
• Open manual licence and own vehicle for getting to work 
• Ability to pass a pre-employment medical
• Clean drug and alcohol check 
• Police clearance 
• Ability to demonstrate safe working practices 
• Ability to work technology incl mobile phones and tablets 
• Sound oral and written skills 
• Effective time management 

DESIRABLE for this role

• Traffic control accreditation 
• A current First Aid incl CPR Certificate  
• Qualification in Horticulture, Arboriculture or Land Care 
• MR Truck licence 
• Spotters ticket 
• Working with children blue card (for some roles) 
• Chainsaw ticket 
• Agricultural Chemical Distribution Certificate 

The day to day work is set out below, but is not limited to the following.

1: Truck driving

• Drive manual light truck including hand loads and unloading.  You may at times be required to climb into the back of the vehicles. 
• Tie down loads safely

2: Manual handling and plant operation

• Brush cutters
• Pole saws
• Hedgers
• Blowers
• Chainsaws

3: Walking distances of up to 5 kilometers per day
4: Work daily in or beside traffic 
5: Working in a variety of weather conditions including above average hot  temperatures and wet weather.

6: Undertake a full range of labourer's duties including the below but not limited to 

• Shoveling (dirt, gravel, mulch and other loose materials)
• Pick or crowbar work
• Bending or picking up loads
• Lifting (up to chest height) or carrying loads
• Climbing in or out of trenches
• Climbing ladders
• Raking or brooming 
• Climbing in and out of vehicles regularly each day to perform various labouring tasks 
• Lifting formwork in and out of manholes 
• Laying pavers
• Herbiciding and pesticiding with back packs 
• Hedging with handheld hedgers 
• Chainsaw and pole saw works 
• Brush cutting 
• Handheld blower works 

7: Open space lawn and garden maintenance as below but not limited to the following.

• Litter pick up 
• Graffiti cleaning 
• Planting/replacing plants (hedges garden beds etc) 
• Tree trimming and weeding
• Boardwalk maintenance and clearing 
• Basic irrigation 
• BBQ cleaning 
• Whipper snipping and brush cutting 
• Laying turf
• Mowing
• Machinery operation 

8: Botanical

• Planting
• Seed collection 
• Cutting collection
• Propagation

9: The Strand 

• Rock pool clean
