As a
Fisheries Technician, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks related to marine fieldwork, data collection, and sample processing. You will play a key role in ensuring the success of field operations, contributing to both scientific research and the ongoing management of marine ecosystems.
This opportunity is a contract position until January 2028. Location is flxable for the sucessfull candidates.
Responsibilities:- Prepare and participate in fieldwork at short notice, sometimes for extended periods, in various conditions (including remote areas, at sea, or during torrential rain).
- Assist with the processing of biological samples and fisheries data.
- Collect, enter, and manage data using relevant software, ensuring accuracy through quality assurance procedures.
- Actively contribute to problem-solving during fieldwork by identifying issues and suggesting practical solutions.
- Collaborate effectively with a team of scientists and technical staff to meet project objectives.
- Uphold health and safety obligations during boat, field, and laboratory work.
Requirements essential to this role:- Experience in field data collection, in a marine environment preferrable.
- Ability to work at sea under rough conditions for extended periods.
- A current “C” class driver’s licence.
Desirable experience/qualification:- A minimum of a Diploma or bachelor’s degree in applied science, Aquaculture, Fisheries Science, or equivalent.
- A coxswain’s certificate.
- First Aid certificate.
